Catch the flavour: Ondo Bar Mestre
Today I’m talking SUSHI!
Having an accessible yet trendy sushi bar in the centre of mestre was long overdue. In Venice there are quite a few sushi places. Most of which sell the typical and quintessential sushi that we are all familiar with. Those of us who wanted an experience that is a) closer to sushi in Japan and b) a little bit more upscale, previously had to shell out quite a few euros for the sushi restaurant over in the HTM tower in Mestre or for the “good places” on the Venice island. Although I’ve only heard good things about the quality of the sushi in said places… the price was enough to put me off. After all, I was a mere student.
Recently a friend of mine who is a foodie (and coincidentally who I interviewed here) recommended this new sushi bar in the town centre of Mestre (the mainland part of Venice). Eager to try, we headed there together. The food is a little bit pricer than other sushi joints in town because typically sushi in Italy is an all- you-can-eat affair. Here, you order by the dish which is probably better, the quality is far higher.
They are quite experimental using things like saffron, pistacchio and passionfruit sauce as a garnish. Furthermore, they are a bar so you can have your pre-dinner aperitif drinks accompanied with plates of sushi. How chic! AND long overdue! I wish I had more pictures of this place but the last time I went I was too busy wolfing down sushi. If you are passing through mestre stop by. It’s on via mestrina so easily accessible by both the no.7 and the no.4 bus from Venice.
Happy Aperitivo!
